Last updated: July 21, 2026
Overview
TRICARE requires all CPT 97151 claims to be submitted within 14 calendar days of the first 97151 date of service (DOS).
The deadline is based on the first 97151 session date of the current assessment
Not the authorization start date or first visit overall.
Submission Timeline Rules

Jan 1 | Jan 10 | ✅ Paid |
Jan 1 | Jan 15 | ✅ Paid |
Jan 1 | Jan 16 | ❌ Denied (past 14-day limit) |
Reassessment Example
A new 97151 reassessment resets the 14-day clock:

Jan 1 | Jan 1 | ✅ Paid |
Jan 1 | Jan 14 | ✅ Paid |
May 1 | May 1 | ✅ Paid - May 1 is more than 14 days away from Jan 1. But, since this is a re-assessment, the clock resets. |
